In the keynote, Dan will share his thoughts on Qt and its relevance for mobile and embedded computing. But mostly he’ll talk about what it takes to build awesome technology year after year for decades, and about the organizational values that matter most to him. This is a rare opportunity to hear from someone who tends to avoid the limelight because it distracts him from what he still really likes to do. Write code.
Dan Dodge and QNX are both anomalies. QNX as a company and as a technology have survived and thrived, holding its own against commercial competitors like Microsoft and open source initiatives based on Linux. Originally, a completely self-funded and organically grown profitable company, it has since been acquired twice, once by Harman and later by BlackBerry. Throughout its history, the company has continued to innovate, on a scale far beyond what one would expect from a company its size and from within large organizations whose first line of business was not software.
Dan is a passionate technologist with an extensive knowledge not just about operating systems, but anything that touches the OS; from silicon to middleware to apps to tooling and so on. Dan’s technology leadership has earned QNX an extensive portfolio of patents including several related to frameworks, graphics, and UIs. But it’s not his background or accomplishments that make Dan such a rare breed, it’s his passion and his enthusiasm for technology and learning that set him apart from his peers, that and his commitment and dedication to the people and the company that he created over thirty years ago.
